This piece of art by Troy reminds me of a show I watched when I was a kid called Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. Sigmund, despite his tough Norse name, was a kind sea monster who wanted to get to know kids. Very friendly. His family were all jerks. It was kind of Casper on the beach. But, just like Casper, when people first saw Sigmund, they’d be scared. But after a while, when they got to know him, they’d realize that he’s just like them. Sometimes good, sometimes bad, but a decent kid.
That’s the way it is when people work at Anawim. At first, a number of the people, especially the bigger guys, look tough and mean. But they are just people, just like everyone else. They’ve got some good, some bad and pretty decent people.
I don’t understand why people want to treat them like criminals. As if they were dangerous. They are cool people.
